How Rideshare Insurance Policies Work in Louisiana

The amount of insurance money available for your injuries depends on what the rideshare driver was doing on their app when the crash occurred. Uber and Lyft use tiered insurance systems to determine coverage:

  • The driver is offline. The driver’s personal car insurance policy applies to the crash.
  • The driver is logged in and waiting for a ride request. The company provides reduced contingent liability coverage, including a minimum of $50,000 per person, $100,000 per incident for bodily injury, and $25,000 for property damage.
  • The driver has accepted a ride or is transporting a passenger. During a prearranged ride, the law requires at least $1 million in coverage.

Our attorneys can investigate the driver’s digital footprint to prove their precise app status at the moment of impact. We cut through the insurance company’s red tape to pursue maximum coverage for your medical bills, lost wages, and other losses.

Types of Compensation in Uber & Lyft Accident Claims

Various types of compensation may be available in an Uber or Lyft accident claim. Common recoverable damages include:

  • Economic damages for direct financial losses, such as medical expenses, future treatment costs, lost income and earning capacity, and property damage.
  • Non-economic damages for intangible losses, such as pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress, and permanent scarring or disfigurement.

Insurance companies have a reputation for pushing lowball settlement offers to protect their bottom lines, making it critical to have our battle-tested lawyers on your side. We can calculate the full extent of damages available to you and fight for the comprehensive settlement you deserve.
